Different Types Of Auto Fluids

It is an advantage to have a basic knowledge of your car’s components. It not only helps keep you from being taken advantage of when something goes wrong, but also helps you keep on top of when you need your car repaired or serviced. Tri Valley Auto Repair & Diesel lists the nine fluid types in your automobile.

Fuel

This is the most basic fuel type in your vehicle. It is responsible for providing power to your car. You’ll obviously want to make sure that you have adequate fuel levels inside your auto, or it will not run.

Oil

Oil is the next most important fluid that your car has. It keeps the engine lubricated as you drive, and without it you will experience real engine damage. Make sure your oil is fresh and that your car has enough of it before you drive. Get your oil changed every 3,000 miles.

Transmission Oil

The second type of oil that your car uses is transmission oil. This fluid is important because it also lubricates your engine, and offers hydraulic assistance when changing gears.

Coolant

Coolant is another very important fluid that your car relies upon. Without it, your engine will overheat, causing irreparable damage. You don’t want your engine block to crack – really, you don’t. Coolant does its part to prevent this, and keeps the engine at the right temperature.

Power Steering Fluid

If you drive a newer vehicle, you are used to the silky smooth operation of your power steering system. This fluid is very important, as it does the important job of keeping your steering wheel from becoming stiff and unmovable. Keep in mind that you may have an electrical power steering system. If this is the case, your car won’t need power steering fluid to function properly.

Brake Fluid

When we think of cars, we think of speed. However, stopping is at least as important. Brake fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles, so that your brake system can continue to function as it should.

Differential Fluid

Often referred to as gear-oil, the differential fluid in your car keeps the differential’s components from creating too much friction as the metal parts move together with each other. If you don’t have enough of this fluid, steering will become impossible.

Refrigerant

Summer is here, and you rely on your car’s air conditioning system more than ever. You’ll want to make sure that you have adequate refrigerant in your automobile, so that you can stay cool as you drive. Having your AC system inspected once a year is a good idea.

Windshield Fluid

There is fluid that sprays onto your windshield when you decide to clean it. this is the last of our listed fluid types. It’s important to keep this fluid topped-off, because you never know when you’ll need to clean your windshield while driving.
