Bring your diesel automobile to Tri Valley Auto Repair & Diesel if the engine is having any of the following problems. These are issues that are common to diesel engines that we fix all the time. We can also maintain your diesel engine to help you avoid these problems in the first place.
Hard Starts
It is a well-known fact that diesel engines will crank more than gasoline engines do before they fire up. This does not mean, however, that you should have significant problems getting your diesel automobile started. If you are, the vehicle is overdue for maintenance. Specifically, you may have a problem with the glow plugs or a fuel-delivery problem.
Power Loss
A fuel-delivery problem can also cause your diesel engine to lose power while you are driving your automobile. Generally, this power loss is a sign that you have a clogged fuel filter or clogged fuel injectors in the engine. This being said, your diesel automobile can also lose power if there is excessive lubrication in the engine. A loose throttle linkage may also be the culprit.
Dirty Fuel
When we say dirty fuel, we mean contaminated fuel. One benefit of driving a diesel automobile is it gets excellent gas mileage because diesel fuel produces more power per gallon. This energy density makes the fuel thick and susceptible to contaminants. The common things that contaminate diesel fuel are water, soot, and glycol. Contaminated fuel can harm the diesel engine.
Excess Exhaust
If your diesel engine is burning too much fuel, this rich fuel mixture will cause black exhaust to flow out of the tailpipe. A rich fuel mixture has more fuel than air in it, and things that can cause this type of mixture include an air filter that is clogged, leaking fuel injectors, or a faulty turbocharger. You may also have a broken EGR valve if the fuel mixture is heavy in fuel.
Engine Noise
Finally, your diesel engine may be louder than a gasoline engine, but you should not hear excessive noise. If the engine is unusually loud, there may be a problem with the diesel automobile’s exhaust system. You also shouldn’t hear strange noises such as knocking, grinding, or squealing. Bring your vehicle to our shop right away if the engine is making noise.
